the grand canal harbour, at the guinness factory in dublin, has been lost to the city for many decades. this project proposes a new lease of life for the harbour as a public open space. a shallow basin of water is proposed to replace the in-filled void, with the quay walls, historic buildings and locks restored. the proposed water is ‘occupied’ permanently with planting and lighting and can be occupied temporarily for events such as markets, skating and concerts.
